The Willie Winter Band ... Sittin' On Top Of The World
Recorded at The Stakeout Tavern Canberra April 1983 with guest drummer Paul DeMarco courtesy Billy Thorpe & Rose Tattoo. It was recorded on a small cassette player sat on top of the mixing desk so that explains Grover the roadie asking Stevo if he wants a drink at the end of the song. Paul was a great drummer, still is, it's a shame we didn't have a bit more rehearsal time.

The Willie Winter Band ...If You Be My Baby

I think this was at The ANU, the photo of the band is at The Stakeout Tavern. Not sure about the line up that night. Rod Eckersley on the saxophone & Pat Italiano on the drums, rather muddy drums by the way, not as clear as Stockdills & nowhere near Alan Sandow. I slowed it down a fraction & put the old cassette tape through my trusty 31 band equaliser, & there you go. The girls name is Bronwyn...

Gosh Willie, it was 20 years ago today. It must be getting crowded up there. You've got The Candy Man, Richard, Lobby, Digger, Harvey, The Cookie Man, Monica, Conroy if he made it & George the other day. Don't lend the drummer any dosh. Miss you Willie Boy.
Fire in the Night ... George Bennett

Well George Bennett has passed away on the 13th May 2024 & I only found out today. Peter Dodson wrote this song many moons ago & George is the singer. A great song featuring a great singer. I hadn't seen George for a long time but I'll have a wee dram tonight & think of happy times with The Murrumbidgee Orchestra. Sail on George.
The Dave Kain Band Canberra Theatre 1979

Dave Kain supporting John McLaughlin, no relation to Kevin McLaughlin, at The Canberra Theatre 1979. It's an instrumental that I don't know the name of but it's a sort of funky groovy sort of feel. Tony Hayes is on the bass. Audience photos courtesy of Kevin McLaughlin.

I wrote this after Lennon got shot as a sort of boogie but i was never happy with it. I haven't got the tape with Dave Kain doing the solo, but it was insane. Dave said because it was called Whole World's Going Crazy it needed a crazy solo. I like this version & I've also got a smooth jazz version that I'll put up later.

I wrote this ages ago when Julia Gillard was the Prime Minister as a slow blues, but now I have updated it as a country blues.
Dave Kain ... Deakin

It must have been the end of 1990 that Dave visited the Deakin house that Stevo & I were renting to try out some new FX gear & his new acoustic guitar made by local Bruce Robertson, I think.I decided to video some of Dave having a strum. Because Stevo & Dave were listening on headphones, I wasn't hearing the FX, only the acoustic guitar. We didn't have a lead to go from the desk to the camera s...

Jammin' at The ANU with The Murrumbidgee Orchestra 1980ish. Me on vocals, Dave & Willie on guitar, Rod on Sax, Steve on bass, Pat on Drums. Sounds like it was a good night & it also sounds like there was a bit of Go Fast too. All in all it was a nice nights Entertainment.

Willie Boy would have been 75 today, so I put a couple of tracks up on the Tube to celebrate, I figure if The Beatles can do it, why can't that Lil' Ol' Band from Canberra do it? A very early recording of the band from 1979, Willie on vocals & guitar, me on bass & Stockdill on the drums. Happy Birthday Ian Edward.

This was recorded at The Canberra College of Advanced Education the end of 1973. Leo formed this lineup after his New King Harvest folded. Called De Castro it features Leo De Castro vocals, Ian 'Willie' Winter guitar, John Young bass, Rob Grey keyboards, & Steve Webb on the drums. Not sure what this song is called, 'Hey Baby?' maybe. It's a rough recording but it features a mighty solo by Ian w...

The standout song from Celebration. Blew me away in 1977 and still does today.
Nice Baz.
What a drummer Neil Bamford was. 😢

@@drummarr61 no complaints Neil
Absolutely beautiful Billy. You're a legend. Miss you. ❤🇦🇺
Oh Billy.....can't stop.loving you and your music. Your songs will live on for ever. You left us way too early but you'll never, ever be forgotten. You'll remain in our hearts always. "I Told The Brook" is a true favourite and "Skinny Minny". Those were the days of fantastic music. Memories indeed and thank you. ❤🇦🇺
I just wanted to see what the bloke that punched Bill for saying the band needed a real hit looked like. HA, HA, HA He does look like a bit of a hothead.
I never get tired of listening to this album and I've had it since 1972.
Amazing forever memory of Mr David Kain, one of the nicest people I knew.
Click on ‘more’ for the info about this song. Cheers Baz

Nice clip and nice memories I have of our band The Incredible Hulk with Pat , Dave,Peter Breust and Bernie Sodowski. The band used to cook when on fire which was a lot of the time. Nice tribute to Dave and I like your comment about not using a certain Base Player up in heaven, Regards and a nice send of to a great Canberra muso. Erik Adriaanse
Hi Baz, Very sad news to hear mate 🙏🏼 RIP Dave !!🗽 Kevin Borich
That’s lovely Baz, big hugs to both of you. Sad end to the year. 😘 Virginia Dodson
Thanks Baz. I listened to Faithless Blues too, great little tune. RIP Dave. Calo
One of Canberra's finest axe men, sadly passed away on 20 Nov 2023. RIP Dave and thanks for all the fabulous music over the past 50 or more years.
Yep me too......I could vaguely remember them so I checked in with Baz for the full story
Yes, David! Beautiful guitar right there, and a very cool blues.
Paul, Dave passed away on Monday … Baz
That is really good. The rhythm is so tight you could set your watch to it.
I just heard about this band in Bill Mcdonoughs book.
Top read Sons of Beaches by Bill McDonough
Same, yes, half way through & read about this song!
Not sure what Lee Michael’s would say about this one? Great song 🎶 bad replay! It needs a Lee Michael’s voice and a B-3 Hammond!❤
Miss Billy so much! He really knew how to rock! Don’t even get me started about Billy at Sunbury! My God!!!!!😊😮🎉
His guitar was plugged into lightning. His rock and roll will overwhelm your soul. BILLY BABEEEEEE !!!!!!!!!!!!
I drove taxis for Aerial taxis at that time. Thanks for the great memories.
Billy could make that Gibson talk🎵🎶🎸
The good old days when Canberra still had heart and soul great vid and trip down memory lane well done 👍
Hey Chris, sounds great mate. I hope you got good use of the pR images I sent to you from the “wrokdown” interview with Wendy Stapleton . ✌️
Dearly missed but never forgotten....You are indelible ! ❤
I had Frank here last weekend for a quick whistle-stop visit to Perth after his few days back in Canberra. He performed here with the ECU,WAAPA students the week before giving 2 concerts with them!
Bloody predictor. Frank Gambale, we supported Humphrey B Bear in Civic New Years Eve 1977
The very same Pedro
I may be wrong Baz, but in the intro text you said Frank Gamble. Did you mean Frank Gambale as in Nunzio's famous brother? 😬
Barefoot, sexy as with a dress that while jamming barely holds it all together and Renee in the prime of her vocal perfection.
Anyone see Billy Thorpe at Queenscliff Music Festival TokH Hotel or Waltzing Matilda Hotel?
Love this 🤩😍
Thanks for this one Bazza .. Ian told me he played with Daddy Cool though this is the first time i'v seen him with them .. Ian was a good man R.I.P.
